I myself think that it would have been better if say ZX and Legends were alternate timelines, but it was specifically the people in charge of the Zero series (including Inafune) that required it to be connected.

The game simply follows on the Good Ending, with the '3 weeks' being a simple retcon (something that X8, a game you praised for story, which I already disagree with, but that's not the point, did quite some times).īecause it was ordered that Zero series and X series are connected. It is implied in the shuttle cutscene that there was some damage dealt to Earth by Eurasia, and Zero Stages happen exactly in the place where it fell. A retranslation of X5 incorporated into the Improvement Patch has a line when the Enigma Succeeds that the Maverick Hunters still have a world to rebuild due to the impacts of the incident and the Sigma Virus, with the colony debris still shown.

There is no weird timeline, it's just X5 has a bad English translation, going as far as to imply that Sigma worked with Cain in the end, which was simply false.
